TASTE for Equity 2025 Gala Photo Booth at the Portland Art Museum
Some events have great food. Some have great music. The 2025 TASTE for Equity Gala at the Portland Art Museum had both, and a photo booth that was built to match! Alegría Photo Booth was on site from cocktail hour through the after party, to give guests a memorable, brand-forward experience that felt as intentional as everything else about the evening.
The TASTE Gala is designed around connection and inspiration, celebrating Oregon's diverse food, wine, artists, and equity heroes. Our job was to bring the same spirit of community and celebration into the photo booth experience. From the photo booth UI to the guest experience, this blog will walk your through how we did exactly just that.
The Venue: Portland Art Museum
The Portland Art Museum is one of the most recognized cultural institutions in the Pacific Northwest, and it earns that reputation the moment you walk through the doors. For the 2025 TASTE Gala, our open-air photo booth was placed in the foyer above the stairs, a natural gathering point as guests arrived for cocktail hour. It gave the photo booth high visibility without disrupting the flow of the event. Guests could step in naturally without feeling like they were stepping out of the room.
The Photo Booth Setup
We ran an open-air photo booth for the full event, covering both cocktail hour and the after party. Guests had three ways to receive their photos: by email, by text, and a physical print on the spot. Over 415 photos were captured across the evening. No props were used, which kept the experience clean and consistent with the elevated atmosphere of the event. The focus was purely on the guests, the branding, and the design, not on accessories.
Custom Design & Brand Integration
This is where the work really came together. TASTE for Equity is a community of diverse creators and leaders united in their mission to forge connections that inspire action toward a more equitable Oregon. Their brand reflects that, bold, community-driven, and visually distinct.
We designed the full photo booth UI, building out 15 on-brand custom screens. The interface walked guests through a seamless flow: welcome screen, capture, preview, print, share, and keyboard input screens each one carrying the TASTE for Equity visual identity. Brand colors, food-forward graphics, fork and knife iconography, and produce illustrations were woven throughout.
That level of detail matters because guests interact with every screen. A 15-screen custom UI means 15 touch points where the brand either shows up or falls flat. At this event, it showed up consistently.
The Story Behind the Design
The theme of the gala was built around a quote from LGBTQ+ Greek poet Dinos Christianopoulos, and it was impossible to miss once you knew it was there.
"They tried to bury us, but they didn't know we were seeds."
We made sure the photo booth carried it too. The quote was woven into the transition screens guests saw while their photos were processing and printed on every photo strip that left the Portland Art Museum that night. For a room full of people who showed up specifically because they believe in that mission, seeing the quote reflected back at them in an unexpected place landed in a way that felt right. And for every guest who walked away with a print in hand, the theme of the gala went home with them too.
The Guest Experience: From the photo booth to Instagram
The photo booth was busy from the moment cocktail hour started. Early in the evening the energy was warm and social, people stopping by in pairs and small groups as the night got going. By the after party it was a different story. The photo booth had become a full-on gathering point, with guests cycling through back to back and prints going straight into hands.
What happened after the gala was just as telling. We saw a noticeable wave of posts in the days following the event, guests sharing their photos on Instagram long after the night wrapped up. For community- driven organizations like TASTE, organic social media reach allowed their mission and event’s impact to live on long after the event ended.
That's what happens when the design is right.
Why the photo booth setup worked
A few decisions made this activation successful:
-
Setting up in the foyer above the stairs during cocktail hour put the booth exactly where guests naturally congregated as they entered the gala. There was no hunting for it and no awkward detour required.
-
When every screen reflects the client's brand, the photo booth stops being a vendor add-on and becomes part of the event itself.
-
All guests received an immediate physical keepsake. In addition to having the option to send the photos digitally through text or email.
-
At a gala honoring community leaders and equity change makers, oversized sunglasses and feather boas aren't the move. Letting the design carry the brand and letting guests show up as themselves was the right call.

TL;DR — The Short Version
Did you scroll straight to the bottom? No judgment here!
Here's what happened: Alegría Photo Booth showed up to one of Portland's most community-driven galas, set up an open-air booth in the foyer of the Portland Art Museum, and built a fully custom 15-screen photo booth experience that truly reflected TASTE for Equity’s brand. Over 415 photos captured. The photo booth experience was a print and digital experience allowing guests to receive physical keepsakes on the spot and digital sharing by text and email.
If you want a photo booth that actually reflects your event and not just a generic setup, let's talk.
Frequently Asked Questions: Photo Booth at a Gala or Nonprofit Event
1. Can a photo booth be customized to match our organization's branding? Yes. We design the full photo booth interface to reflect your brand, including: colors, graphics, iconography, and messaging. For the TASTE for Equity Gala, we built a 14-screen custom UI that carried their visual identity from the welcome screen all the way through the share flow.
2. What type of photo booth works best at a gala? An open-air photo booth is typically the best fit for galas. It's approachable, social, and doesn't create a visual barrier between guests.
3. Do guests receive physical prints at the event? Yes. Guests receive a physical printed keepsake on the spot. We also offer digital sharing via text and email, so guests have both options at the same time.
4. How many photos can a photo booth capture at a gala? It depends on the length of the activation and guest flow, but volume can be significant. At the 2025 TASTE for Equity Gala, we captured over 415 photos across cocktail hour and the after party.
5. How long should we book a photo booth for a gala? We recommend booking for the full event when possible. Covering both cocktail hour and the after party gives guests two natural windows to engage, the relaxed arrival energy and the higher energy later in the night both produce strong participation.
6. Where should a photo booth be placed at a gala venue? Placement is one of the most important decisions. Ideally, the booth should be in a high-traffic social area where guests naturally gather, not tucked in a corner or competing with the main program. At the Portland Art Museum, we set up in the foyer above the stairs, which was the natural arrival and gathering point for cocktail hour.
7. Do we need props for a gala photo booth? Not at all. Props are optional and often skipped at more formal or brand-focused events. At the TASTE for Equity Gala, we ran the activation with no props, the custom design and the guests themselves carried the experience.
8. Can a photo booth work for a nonprofit fundraising gala? Absolutely. A photo booth adds energy and a tangible guest experience to nonprofit events without requiring a high-maintenance activation. It also creates branded content that extends your organization's visibility beyond the event itself.
9. What is the difference between digital and print photo booth options? Digital delivery lets guests receive their photos instantly via text or email and share them right away. Print gives guests a physical keepsake they leave with in hand. Offering both, as we did at the TASTE Gala, means no guest has to choose, and it keeps the booth experience moving efficiently.
10. Can a photo booth be set up at the Portland Art Museum? Yes. The Portland Art Museum is a strong venue for an open-air photo booth activation. The foyer and gallery spaces offer clean architectural backdrops, good natural flow for guests, and enough room to set up without disrupting the event program.
